Design & Technology
At the academy students receive two lessons a week in design technology following a termly rotational system with Computer Science. Alongside the learning of key skills and techniques in these areas the students also learn about the importance of their own and others safety and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.Throughout Key Stage three students are taught as mixed ability groups.
Students learn a variety of practical culinary skills in Years 7 and 8. They will develop their knowledge and understanding of a wide range of ingredients, equipment, processes, nutrition and current health issues.
Students design and make a variety of products in Year 7 and 8. They learn about different materials such as plastics, woods, metals, smart materials and electronic components.
The department hosts a by-yearly ‘Masterchef’ competition with the students working in teams preparing two dishes on the evening, judged by star guests. The school also participates and hosts a yearly technology tournament for the rotary club, promoting creative thinking and providing environmentally appropriate solutions for the modern society.
