Transition

Departmental Aims and National Curriculum Statement(s)

The Bushey Academy Transition Group is an initiative designed to support specific Year 7 students in English and Maths. The class consists of a maximum of 20 students who are given specific targets to enable them to fulfil their potential in these subject areas.

Fully understanding the basic elements in both English and maths is the most important and fundamental principle. And it is these which underpin learning in every other subject. Without them, learning new skills, participating in new experiences and enjoying the education we receive at the Academy can be challenging.

Aims:

  • To provide a familiar and nurturing environment for students
  • To accelerate students learning to allow them to more easily access the Year 8 curriculum
  • To ensure all students in transition succeed, regardless of their starting point or academic ability

Key Stage 3 (Year 7 and 8)

The Bushey Academy Transition Group is an initiative designed to support specific Year 7 students in English and Maths. The classes consist of a maximum of 20 students each who are given specific targets to enable them to fulfil their potential in these subject areas.

The curriculum is designed to meet the individual needs of the students and can be tailored accordingly, allowing for appropriate differentiation and for cross curricular links to be made. The students only work in the Transition Classroom for set subjects and still enjoy the benefits of a full and rich curriculum alongside their peers.

It is vital to fully understand the basic elements in both English and Maths as these fundamental principles underpin learning in every other subject. Without them, learning new skills, participating in new experiences and enjoying the education we receive at the Academy can be challenging.
